The Sunday Experience at First Cov
1st Covenant Church doesn’t have a pastor? What’s going on there?
1st Covenant has purposefully begun the process of shifting away from weekly sermons. People are longing for community and connection, and we are trying new and diverse ways of gathering by moving to a rotating model that incorporates music, a monthly sacred texts, prayer, and discussion in different ways. The encouraging comments and engagement we have received have us wondering if this is what God has for the Church as a whole in this time. If so, how wonderful that we are onboard!
A typical month at 1st Covenant usually look like this:
On the first Sunday of the month we gather in the Lounge for a Contemplative Service when Carma Gjerning introduces the month’s chosen sacred text through word and song while she encourages participants to share their reactions.
On the second Sunday of the month Daniel Lukas will lead us through an unscripted scripture study to explore the monthly sacred text followed by Communion.
On the third Sunday we will get energized by Robert Robinson in a musical worship service. The 1st Cov Gospel Choir will also perform quarterly. A Community Table follow where those who are able, share a dish.
On the fourth Sunday we will invite a guest to share about a topic related to Justice and Mercy and dig deeper into it, as a group.

We know our church cannot be everything to everyone, but we are excited to offer options that will help each of us engage; regardless of our approach to connection with God, our sacred text, and each other. We hope participating in these options will be exciting for you, as well. As we gain experience and receive feedback about different types of gatherings, we will use that to shape what we are looking for in additional ministry staff.
