"Bearing Hope"

LUKE 1:46-55
ADVENT SERIES

Whether it is a turning toward the internal, or an encounter with the external, causing our truth to leap within us like the child in Elizabeth’s womb, awakening us to hope, it is in the bearing of that hope that the world does indeed change! The great reversal becomes the new reality that has actually been there all along, but now you can not only see it, you are living it! Now the thing you used to take for reality seems absurd! "Hope Imagined"

ISAIAH 11:1-10
ADVENT SERIES

2,700 years after Isaiah, human consciousness and Christian consciousness still plays in the sand box of primal and violent tribalism. So, in Advent 2016, Isaiah once again brings a fresh word to us that echoes the sentiment of theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer when he wrote, “God’s coming is not only a matter of glad tidings, but first of all, frightening news for everyone who has a conscience.” On the hopeful side of things—In the face of tribalism, we all still have in our possession our own personal will to meaning and can take hope in the connection between this ancient messianic vision of Isaiah that converges righteousness, differentiation and communion with Jesus’ command to love our neighbors like ourselves. That is the space where we can cast hopeful advent vision for our relationships across differences.
